I came to crypto through poker, and to markets through the parts
of the internet where people waffle about the future and
sovereignty. I started on offshore perps, speculating on MEXC,
KuCoin, and Bybit on a Palau residency, and have moved further
onchain every year since.
A good chunk of my time goes to reading and researching. Grew up
on Balaji and UpOnly, before I "matured" into Buffett, Marks, and
Bernstein. The animal spirits pointed me towards Livermore,
Baruch, and Soros. Keynes, Bernoulli, Shiller, and Robin Hanson
for why people behave the way they do. Each one an instructor, for
better or worse.
I spend most of my time in public markets, investing and
speculating across equities and tokens. Tokens are nascent enough
that I read most of them as speculative vehicles, which is not a
knock, since speculation is where the edge is. Due to this, I
spend a lot of time on emerging and raw markets, where the games
being played look like the ones being played in crypto now. Tulip
Mania, the South Sea Bubble, the Taiwan craze, the 2021 crypto
boom. There is nothing new under the sun, just the same thing in
different flavors. Whatever the asset, it's people doing the
trading, and people tend never to learn.
When I am not speculating, I take long term views on what I
believe are real paradigm shifts (though this time it isn't
different). Speculative games are finite games. The infinite game
is allocating capital to productive assets, and that is where most
of the time should go. If you are building financial products
